Humans and Humanoids Living Together: Written by Meher Kher

Once, there was a very smart couple who ran an NGO to help poor people. The husband’s name was Abir and his wife’s name was Shivani.
Abir and Shivani were looking for someone who could help in the day to day operations of the NGO. One day, someone told them about Mr. Kumar. Mr. Kumar designed and manufactured robots. His robots looked just like humans. Abir said he will give the robot enough salary and asked Mr. Kumar how much he would sell the robot for.
Abir and Shivani left Mr. Kumar’s factory, disheartened. If they bought a robot, they wouldn’t have enough salary to pay him. Not paying for work done, was unethical as per them.
One day someone rang their bell, Shivani opened the door and asked the person who he was. “My name is Jai,” responded the person at the door. He looked a little nervous as he spoke, “are you looking for a person to help in your NGO?”
Shivani invited him inside and they discussed the job, over a cup of tea. Abir joined Shivani in explaining what all needed to be done at the NGO, and Jai shared all that he could help with. He did not have any work experience, but was confident that he could manage the work.
Jai started working with them. Meanwhile, Mr. Kumar was looking for a missing robot in his factory. He had hired a private detective to investigate if any of his robots went missing. Jai wasn’t just another robot. He was an experiment. Mr. Kumar’s team had infused emotions in Jai. Hence, Mr Kumar couldn’t have let his prototype, Jai, go missing. He set the private detective to find Jai as well.
Jai was happy, finally. He was getting a good salary, and was free. He was not a slave like the others.
But Jai’s happiness was short-lived.
One day, there was a knock at Abir’s and Shivani’s NGO. Jai froze as he opened the door. It was Mr. Kumar. Mr. Kumar politely told Jai, that if he did not get back to the factory’s warehouse, he would file a case against Abir and Shivani for stealing one of his robots.
Jai had to go. He hadn’t even told Abir and Shivani that he was a robot. They had no clue that he had overheard their conversation when they were talking to Mr. Kumar. Their plea, of offering a salary and not keeping a robot as a slave, is what motivated him to run away from the factory and join their NGO. But now, things were different. He could not see anything happen to Abir and Shivani. They had been very nice to him, and Mr. Kumar was a very shrewd man.
When Abir and Shivani realised that Jai was missing, they got worried and searched for him all over. They went to his house, met some friends he had made in the last few months. When nothing came out, they circulated pictures of Jai, on social media. After 2 to 3 days, they decided to go to the police and file a case.
In the mean time, Jai was hatching a plan to escape, with the help of the coder who had coded emotions into him. He got the coder to help infuse emotions into some of his other robot friends. Once the code was infused, Jai and his friends were ready to escape. A night later, Jai and his friends quickly sneaked out out of the factory, without Mr.Kumar’s knowing.
Next morning, Abir and Shivani chanced upon  Mr. Kumar’s detective, at the police station. The detective was investigating another case, when he saw Abir and Shivani. Mr. Kumar had not cleared his dues after finding Jai, so he decided to share Jai’s location with Abir and Shivani.
That’s when Abir and Shivani learnt that Jai was actually a robot. Just when they were recovering from their disbelief, Jai appeared before them. He knew he would find them there.
Abir and Shivany expressed how upset they were. Jai apologised, “I couldn’t tell you as I was scared that you may send me back to Mr. Kumar. Or the other team members at the NGO may treat me like a slave instead of a friend.”
When Mr. Kumar learnt that many of his robots were missing, he was furious, and decided to build a huge search team to hunt them down.
Mr. Kumar reprogrammed all his robots to find and fight the ones who had gone missing with Jai.
Meanwhile, Jai , other robots, Shivani, Abir and the police got ready to attack Mr. Kumar and his army. As soon as Mr. Kumar and his army came close to the police station, looking for the detective who had earlier found Jai, the gunfight began.
During the war, Mr. Kumar got hit with a stun gun, and fell unconscious.
Suddenly the robots that were programmed to fight, were left without a leader, and did not know what to do.
Jai and his friends used this time to brainwash the other robots. Their coder friend, also infused the same code that had been infused in Jai, to all robots.
Soon all the robots were working at Abir and Shivani’s NGO. As soon as they had the funds, they paid Mr. Kumar back.
In the end robots were free. The robots only worked for 8 hours and lived in separate rooms. They loved their life and freedom.
